On the eve of yet another new year, we pause for a bit of reflection. How did the last 12 months go? Did you set any goals and if you did did you hit them, did you even make progress?
This isn’t meant to get you feeling bad if you didn’t. Use today instead to figure out just what you want and where you want to go. Don’t get caught up in New Year’s resolutions. You have bigger things going on than pretending to go to the gym every day next month.
This should be a time when you turn the page on old unachieved hopes and dreams and start working on a new chapter. This should be a chance for you to refresh, renew and restart. You have been given a second chance on many of your hopes and dreams. You just need to make the decision that they are worth pursuing.
“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man”. – Benjamin Franklin
So it’s time to set your sights higher than you ever have. If you don’t have to stretch to reach them they aren’t big enough. Another way I’ve heard it described is that if it’s not hard it’s not worth doing. We aren’t sure if this is true but if so it would fit right in line with making the goal not easy to reach.
You are going to hear a ton of noise over the next couple weeks about how everyone seems to be doing some sort of resolution. Don’t get caught up in others goals. Razor sharp focus and sheer will and determination are going to help you reach whatever it is you are aiming for.
Sticking to it will be hard, especially in the beginning. You will tell yourself that it’s ok too but things on the backburner but we are here to tell you it’s not. You will need to be pushing towards your goals daily. The reason you will stick with it is because the payoff is worth every bit of the work.
Nothing in this world feels like the moment that you accomplish something that you set out months or years ago to do. That satisfaction will hopefully bring you happiness and a sense that you can take on anything this world can throw at you. It will prove that you really are strong and resilient.
All this in 2017? You bet and next year you will be planning even bigger changes for your life. So start living and get moving on recreating yourself and make this upcoming year the best you have ever had.
