I’m an addict and I admit it!!!

Embrace your wins!!!

I’m an addict and I have a particular problem that has plagued me my entire life. I remember as a child I’d be playing with my friends and when we were done I’d start to feel the itch. It happened again and again as I got older. I never gave it much thought until recently.

We talk about journeys, long roads traveled, battles and more. Each of these things is fraught with discomfort and hard work. They require a lot of hard decisions and sometimes massive sacrifices. We often talk about falling and getting back up. Another common theme is that of perseverance and even endurance.

What happens when the opposite happens, though? When instead of falling you find

The feeling after crossing the line!

yourself outpacing the pack. After a long journey, there is a finish line that gets crossed. A new journey may begin but you still finished the last race.

Maybe its satisfaction that you feel. Is it deeper than that possibly? Maybe its vindication that you set out to tackle the thing that was not to be conquered. It’s a feeling that gives you a shot of adrenaline that you only get from winning. Small wins, big wins, any wins bring you a taste of this.
Yes, I’m addicted to the adrenaline brought on by winning. We’ve fought many hard battles and endured many tough conversations about how our efforts are futile. It’s after everyone leaves and you get back on the horse not knowing that today is the day you cross the finish line does that rush come. It’s about keeping the faith and moving forward by inches every day. you’ll fall, 1246825519_8da1127695_oyou’ll be embarrassed but you’ll see the goal in your mind and you are committed to it. You shall not fail you tell yourself.

Take the wins when you get them. Every battle is hard fought and to walk away from any part of it that makes you stronger, better or happier is a waste of the effort. No one needs to know about your victory but you. You’re the only one who may understand but gloating isn’t the way a true winner handles a victory. embrace the feeling and set your sights on the next goal and the next injection of victory.

Don’t know what you want? That’s ok if you know what you don’t want!

Change gears and start to head in a new direction

Struggling through life at the moment and lost without direction? Yeah, so many of us have had this feeling or are feeling it right now. There is something under the surface that is keeping us from reaching that potential. We don’t know what it is (or maybe we do) but it’s there.

It’s not necessarily about a state of mind or a way of thinking. What we are talking about is being truly unsure of one’s destination. So what can someone do to find that direction and get back on track to happiness and fulfillment?

What doesn’t fit???

Unfortunately, there is no beacon of light shining from the “life’s happiness direction lighthouse” but there are some simple things that can get you started. First start by examining your current situation. Look at everything from family, friends, work, social life, hobbies.

What is it about these things is not creating the kind of fulfillment that you are needing. Go through a process of elimination. Start to check off all the things that make you happy and all the things that are just downright bad. There may be a few in the middle and you can tackle those ones last.

“Here is the kicker, though, while you are going through the process of change the activity of it alone will give you enough energy to keep going and give you hope.” – Team Obstinatio

This isn’t going to be easy and most likely will take quite a bit of time. That’s what this is all about, though. Things worth doing are rarely ever easy. They require commitment and persistence. Here is the kicker, though, while you are going through the process of change the activity of it alone will give you enough energy to keep going and give you hope. What matters is that you start. Commitment and persevere will mean nothing if you do nothing.

What do you want to get out of your life?

You’re probably going about it all wrong!

Recently we started to get into Stoic philosophy and just scratching the surface of it has had a profound impact on our lives. This is a bit embarrassing but up until very recently, we didn’t even know what it was. It was only after hearing about it on a podcast last week did we take note of it for further review.

Without question, we will be writing more about this topic as it fascinating on so many levels. Today we will keep it simple and leave you with the same questions that we were left with.

  • If you died today what would they say at your funeral?

    SONY DSC
    What would it say?
  • What would be on your tombstone?
  • Would they talk about how great a tax analyst you were?
  • How about that new SUV that you bought?
  • How great a human you were and how you helped everyone you meet?
  • How you were electric and made everyone happier just to be around them?
  • How about how great a mother or father you were and how the children you raised turned out so well.

We wrote the other day about how money dominates this space and that most of the larger blogs revolve around it. They lure you in with greed and the promise of financial riches. We would rather revolve around you. If the money comes great but if not that’s ok too. Maybe we’ll get lucky and someone will be better for having stumbled across us.
